Naturopathic Manipulations: (adjustments)
This is similar to chiropractic adjustments working the the soft tissue (muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments) and the joints. These techniques can provide relief for back, joint, muscle pain, and some headaches. They are also useful for addressing postural problems. A session can involve both soft tissue work (therapeutic massage, muscle energy stretching) and joint adjustments (manipulation). Adjustments can, but do not have to, be the typical "High Velocity Low Amplitude" (HVLA) adjustment. That is the kind that result in the typical "crack" or "pop" sensation. There are more gentle ways to introduce motion and cause a release and relief. It is about introducing motion in restricted joints and opening up the joint space. An advantage of seeing a naturopathic physician for adjustment is the physician's ability to address to provide comprehensive and integrated solutions for recovery from pain and musculoskeletal problems. |
Therapeutic Exercise
Adjustments, soft tissue work, and in office treatments are only part of the solution. Learning proper movement techniques to do during the week is just as, or more, important. A few simple exercises, done properly, can go a long way to help alleviating musculoskeletal pain and correct postural alignment. We work with you, your body, and your resources to find lasting solutions. Sitting at desks and looking at smartphones are a common cause of neck and back pain. Therapeutic exercise alone, or with naturopathic manipulation, can help correct many of these problems. |
Dry Needling
Several studies verify what has been known in practice for a long time. Dry needling is an effective treatment of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. It is commonly used to release "trigger points" (bands of tight muscle and connective tissue). It also can reduce the pain of Osteoarthritis. This can lead to a decrease in the use of pain medications and an increase in mobility. Some common conditions treated with dry needling are
